About Rara Lake Tour - 8 days

Rara Lake tour is a pleasant opportunity to explore the biggest and the deepest lake in Nepal. Rara Lake nestles at the elevation of almost 3000m and lies inside the smallest and the most colorful National Park of Nepal, Rara National Park, located northwest of Kathmandu in the mountainous district of Mugu.

The lake is surrounded by the lush vegetation in all directions, the wonderful woods of pine, spruce, and juniper along with hundreds of species of wildflowers and herbal plants prosper at its shores. This serene wilderness is an ideal habitat for musk deer, Himalayan black bear, leopard, goral, Himalayan Thar and wild boar.

The short trek to Rara is a wonderful journey starting with a scenic flight to Nepalgunj city and then another sweeping flight to Talcha where our walk begins to Rara Lake. The trail leads through interesting culturally rich Thakuri, Malla and Tibetan influenced tribes with rich ancient traditions and customs along with picturesque views of snow-capped mountains.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1330 m)

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be received by a representative from Marron Treks and transferred to the hotel. Welcome drinks will be served at the hotel after which we will have a short briefing regarding the trekking itineraries. After you can refresh, relax in your room. In the evening, you can stroll around the nearby places and get the feel of Kathmandu city.

Day 02: Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

Next day, after breakfast, you will be driven to the domestic wing for one and a half hour scenic flight to Nepalgunj, the western region hub of Nepal, which borders the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh to the South. We don’t have a connecting flight to Talcha which gives us the opportunity to explore this hot and humid town. In the evening, we can explore the city center, Dhamboji, which happens to be the business hub with a plethora of hotels and shops.

Day 03: Flight from Nepalgunj to Talcha Airport (2950m/25min), Hike to Rara National Park (2290m/3hrs)

After the short scenic flight above the wilderness of western Nepal, we land at the remote airstrips of Talcha. Our trek to serene Rara Lake begins passing along the tranquil trails of Rara National Park. The trails pass several culturally opulent villages, where you get to see the ancient traditions and lifestyle of true Himalayan people. Walking pass through low alpine woodlands, juniper, and herbal plants, we arrive at Rara Lake.

Day 04: Day hike to Chhuchemara Hilltop 4090m & Excursion around Rara Lake

Today is the most awaited day of our trek. In the morning, after breakfast we will go for boating in the deep and clear Rara Lake and enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna on the lake shores then with packed lunch, we set out for the hiking to the Chhuchemara Hilltop. The trails to the hilltop are pleasant which caters to the magnificence Himalayan peaks inside Nepal as well as Tibetan territory on the northern side. In the rest of the direction, we sight the beautiful views of lush woodlands surrounding deep valleys and the water sparkling in the crystal clear Rara Lake.

In the evening, after we are done with day’s hiking, we stroll around the lake and immerse into the blissfully serene nature of Rara Lake and its surroundings.

Day 05: Excursion around Rara Lake (2,990 m)

Today, we will again spend our day exploring the surrounding around Rara Lake. Since the place is full of natural delights, you will have plenty of activities to do around Rara Lake such as horse riding, cycling, jungle safari and many more. However, the best thing you can do is follow the instructions of our guide who can come up with the best activity for the day.

Day 06: Hike from Rara National Park to Talcha Airport (2950m/3 hrs)

After spending a beautiful morning enjoying the tremendous beauty of sunshine in Rara Lake, we set off for the journey back to Talcha. The 3 hours trek will bring us back to Talcha.

Day 07: Morning Flight to Nepalgunj and Afternoon flight to Kathmandu

Today, after breakfast you will fly to Nepalgunj Airport. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we again take the flight back to Kathmandu. As we land in the domestic section of Kathmandu Airport, you will be received by Marron trek representatives and escorted to your designated hotel.

Day 08: Final Departure to Homeland

A representative from Marron Treks will escort you to the airport. It is advisable to get there, three hours prior to the flight schedule. Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end; they simply mean we’ll miss you, till we meet again! I hope you had a great time with us and we look forward to being your adventure companion to Nepal again.

3-Star Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara on “BB” basis as per itinerary (hotel category can be change on guest request)
All trekking accommodation costs on full board basis which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The accommodation during the trekking will be in the guesthouses, lodges or tea houses on twin sharing basis but occasionally in the common dormitory especially during peak seasons.
